Is Donovan looking on, still?

Billy Donovan was almost gone.

I’m starting something new. This is a daily collection of links, not all sports-related, devoted to the best, most interesting, or most important stuff I want to share.

Send me stuff.

More backstory on Billy Donovan-to-Kentucky: Anonymous sources, but I know and trust the writer and he trusts them, so I believe this is how things transpired. (RootZoo)

Actual analysis of football from Orson Swindle? Expect it to be raining fire in a matter of days. (EDSBS)

Encouraging the Lions to fail…to make the first selection in the NFL Draft. Intriguing idea, but Punter sums up the Draft wonderfully in the last sentence. (With Leather)

Allen Iverson would rather retire than ride the pine. So what team needs a starting point guard in 2009? (ESPN)

Enormous Amazon sale on Majestic baseball apparel. (Amazon)

Greg Oden, from range. (But The Game Is On)

The celebrity charity medley era is over. Thank the stars. (The No Look Pass)

On Jozy Altidore. Tyler Duffy does smart soccer writing well. (The Big Lead)

Ireland shocks Italy in World Cup qualifying. (The Red Carders)

Jason Whitlock, repentant and circumspect. This is new. (Fox Sports)

Twitter’s tinkering with its search engine. (eWeek)

Lil Wayne, breaking down a basketball game. The diamond fronts are still stupid. (The Sporting Blog)

Should Dwight Howard be in the MVP conversation? (Open Mike)

Some gorgeous retro Final Four tees. (Sports Biz)

Finally, the UFC’s Dana White flips out at a reporter. The UFC took down the longer video, but Deadspin snagged some of it. You can watch it, but know that it’s thoroughly NSFW, misogynistic, homophobic, and exactly what you would expect from the hypermasculine UFC stereotype. If mixed martial arts want to transcend the pseudo-sport zone wrestling inhabits, they would do well to rid themselves of clowns like White.
